What is Freaksville rec ?

Freaksville is a " do it yourself ' indie french pop record label based in Belgium.
More than a label, it's a family of french music lovers. It's a team of musicians, illustrators, producers, artists, lyricists from belgium and foreign countries.
Our Lps sound different in the small world of french pop music.
In fact, a Freaksville song (produced most of the time by the cult belgian artist Miam Monster Miam) is a 'sureallistic' mix of french/english louche chansons, perverted blues, electronic pop and noisy garage rock.
This is the essence of Freaksville, all that stuff in one experimental musical pop track !

What is Freaksville booking ?

We created Freaksville record. Ok ?
So we want to play our music in front of an audience in some friendly places.
We had a idea to make that happen ! We created a Freaksville revue like a motown allstars band.
Nobody wanted to book this show because it asked them to take a risk compared to commercial venues...We know all this "bla bla bla"...
So in 2006, we started to book ourselves our bands all over europe (in Belgium, but also in France, Deutchland and Uk) and hopefully found good venues to play our music.
It works !

Why should I book a great Freaksville artist in my town?

The answer is easy ! because we are all crazy animals on stage ! You have to kill us !
Live, It sounds really freaky and intense ! Far away from the typical local “ sad” indie noisy guitar band post radiohead you will find in all town of all european country.
Wherever you are in the world, don’t hesitate to contact us for a show. For a private party, a club venue, festivals, fashion parties. We are stage addicts !

FREAKSVILLE REVUE ! *****

With Jacques Duvall, Juan D’Oultremont, Miam Monster Miam, Android 80,
Raoul Reyers + French pop guests

The Freaksville Revue is an absurdly poetic experience. Kind alike an old Far West Medicine Show, a terribly honest rock'n'roll swindle. Benjamin Schoos, aka MiamMonster Miam, is the gang's leader. He is a mad producer, an eclectic songwriter and a demented guitar player. His wild bunch of friends includes an english androïd, two former french chanson hitmakers, and a singing actress, among others.

"You're the best worst show I've ever seen" said an enthusiast member of the audience in Liège, Belgium.
You are warned.

PHANTOM featuring JACQUES DUVALL

Talking blues, perverted punk rock, acid bubblegum, desperate surf music and existentialist country.
Jacques Duvall is known as a sarcastic tunesmith for several french pop stars.
His first claim to fame was "Banana Split", a worldwide hit for sweet sixteen Lio, in 1979.
But he had been writing songs since the mid-seventies for french underground diva Marie France and for The Runaways, Joan Jett's all-female rock'n'roll band.
He then succeeded Serge Gainsbourg as lyricist for Alain Chamfort, the french Burt Bacharach.
Other collaborations followed, with among others Jane Birkin, Etienne Daho, Sparks, Telex.
“ Gainbourg’heir does rock garage as well as Louche chansons “ the words, june 2007

MIAM MONSTER MIAM
‘The Dragonflyman gig’

Benjamin Schoos, aka Miam Monster Miam is a lunatic. Every new project on his label, aptly named Freaksville Records, is a U turn from his previous move. Now he comes up with "L'homme libellule", a handful of timeless pop songs about a Dragonfly Man whose purpose is to save mankind, nothing less. The only weapon he's using to achieve his mission is, errr..., Is there any madcap left on earth that would be ready to embark on such a foolish trip? Well, yes there is. And not only does Benjamin Schoos go his own way, the oddest thing is he makes you want to follow him! So there we go on his strange rocketship traveling through time, space and music. Miam Monster Miam's sound is a kaleidoscope of everything you ever heard and loved (or hated!). From Kevin Ayers he borrowed the nonchalant crooning voice, from Todd Rungren the almost mystical melodic sense, from Jonathan Richman the looney poetry, from Sky Saxon and Roky Eriksson the punky urge. The question of course is: is there a place for an eccentric like Benjamin Schoos in the music world today? Hey! If there isn't, shame on us music lovers!

LES ENFANTS DE ZARDOZ

Thomas Vortex (drums and saxophone) and Ben zardoz (vintage synthetisers, electric guitar and harp) formed in 2006 the cult duo ‘zardoz’s children’ and performed on stage a weird and unique improvisated music : a personal tribute to seven scifi movies,to the electronic pionneers, Sun Ra, Soft Machine and John fahey with the nowave diy attitude. Their gigs are rare and precious ! Don’t miss them live ! It’s Amazing !!

UFO GOES UFA

Belgium must surely be the Twilight Zone of Rock ‘n Roll, within its borders identity is a ghost-image at best, and musical genres cross-pollinate and morph with the same dreamlike abandon.
Proof of this is Ufo goes Ufa, an Anglo-Belge collaboration, which will take you down the rabbit-hole and through the wall to the dark corners of Rock ‘n Roll’s twisted psyche.
Pop Garage Symphony No. 9, their first album, stampedes gleefully through assorted styles like a shoplifter in a graveyard. Twanging pop melodies mesh with lo-fi garage fuzz guitars, in a Beefheart-induced sci-fi landscape.
The shambolic genius of The Fall collides with the psycho violin and primitive beats of The Velvet Underground, as analogue synths slide and throb over the whole opus like alien tentacles.
Lyrically, there’s a huge green fluorescent dose of subterranean B-movie sub-culture running through its veins. Zombies and serial killers, S&M barberellas and vengeful bluesmen rub shoulders with the sleazy demise of the Summer of Love and Kerouac’s holy deadbeat epiphanies.
Songs are the result of the combined efforts of Northern English exile Briandroid on vocals and synths, and his acolytes the charming Sophie Galet on drums and percussion, and Pascal Scalp, bassist from Jacques Duvall’s Phantom combo.
Guitars and arrangements are provided by Miam Monster Miam,At the helm is legendary producer Kramer, creator of the seminal Shimmy Disc label, with a wealth of production credits behind him with artists such as Butthole Surfers, Galaxie 500, Bongwater and Jon Spencer to name but a few.

ANDROID 80

12 years as keyboard player in self-destructive psychedelic freak circus POISONED ELECTRICK HEAD left me as damaged goods, so I hightailed it to Ibiza to work in a bar, figuring some normality and a change of scenery would straighten me out. Typically Fate had other plans, and I soon fell into the hands of the Manumission team (the island's superclub), where I rapidly became their resident paranoid android; a role which just led to more unrestrained madness on a grand scale. Returning to England, the chance to relocate to Belgium came along via romantic means, and emboldened by my recent adventures, little caution remained to throw windwards. Thus a respectable teaching career unfolded, but like a bubble under wallpaper or a body under the floorboards, the urge to make music eventually surfaced again - and this time it would be on my terms. So now I'm the Android 80s, a one man electronic extravaganza. Several hundred gigs under the belt has dulled the stage nerves to the degree where I've no qualms about being alone up there, and age and a long history of costume crimes comfortably allows me to dress the part. If I'm unhinged ( and it has been speculated upon ) then I'm quite happy with that - normality seems a much more punitive sentence.
